Alice in Wonderland
Lewis Carroll
Pages read - Entirety of Chapter 3 Question
Response:
Though there is no question as to why the mouse took offense at every time Alice mentions her 'lovely' cat; Dinah or the neighbor's dog I question what the mouse has in mind when he started talking about William the Conqueror.
He did however say that, "I'll dry you soon enough". It might be that since the historical information her recited
"William the Conqueror, whose cause was favored by the pope, was soon submitted to
by the English, who wanted leaders, and had
been of late much accustomed to usurpation and
conquest. Edwin and Morcar, the earls of
Mercia and Northumbria—"
was indeed and truly dry, educating a pre-pubescent girl and a peculiar bunch of birds in British history would do nothing to solve their current wet situation (caused by the pool of tears).
I also found it rather odd that the mouse would lose it's temper so quickly. But to be fair, Alice did previously offended him on many occasions during the events of The Pool of Tears.
The very fact that the bunch of birds existed at all was also odd, but after all; It is a children's book. (Filled with literary nonsense)
