LOG ENTRY 2

Log For the week of - 4th week of January (Log week 4)
Alice in Wonderland
Lewis Carroll
Pages read - Entirety of Chapter 4-5          Evaluate-Question

Response:
The chapter starts of right after the previous one. Alice is wondering around 'Wonderland' in her normal size pondering about the peculiar things that happened to her, when she spots the vested white rabbit she followed down the hole

After attempting at what i assume was communication, the rabbit mistook her for his housemaid and sent her to his home to fetch somethings for him. This is where it get's slightly odd, as the chances of someone as obviously 'Human' as Alice getting mistook for a denizen of wonderland (who are mostly animals and creatures up to this point) is unlikely. Though it might be caused by the natural blindness of rabbits, or the possibility of a 'Human' housemaid who has uncanny differences with Alice.

She then travels to the rabbits home. There, she found the things she was asked to fetch (a pair of gloves and a stick if i'm not mistaked) and an small odd bottle. Feeling parched, Alice drank the liquid inside the bottle and grew so large that she barely fit the room she was in. I have to say, Alice sticks her nose (or tongue) into things she probably isn't supposed to. Curiosity perhaps.

Thinking she is some kind of beast, the rabbit gathered a mob of other creatures in the attempts of getting her out of there. The mob then forced 'Bill' some kind of lizard creature, down the chimney to settle the problem, where Alice gave him a sharp kick and sent him back out.
Now i don't know what these 'people' have against Bill, but they are being persistent in sending a mere lone lizard to get a giant out of a bedroom. Or they might just be going with the flow after someone suggested that Bill go in.

Here are some questions raised by the 5th chapter:
-Why is a caterpillar man thing smoking a hookah?
-Why does everything eaten in wonderland change Alice's size?
-Why is the only thing growing/shrinking (by eating the mushroom) Alice's neck?

Theme:
Coming of Age, Conflict, Discrimination, Personal Growth

Author's Message:
Probably something along the lines of "Avoid drinking odd bottles of potions and mushrooms a smoking caterpillar has just been on."
But hey, Children's Book.

  1. your sarcasm in your comments are always amusing to read. the questions you've posed are a combination of both good and easy ones. Where did you get the idea that the only thing growing is Alice's neck?:-) The way you combine strategies is great, however, i encourage you to look deeper into the fantasy part of the story and try to see the background of why this story has so many odd things going on, what do they stand for? when was this story done and what is the background:-)
